Discover De Domijnen

Museum De Domijnen is a relatively young museum for contemporary art and city history and archaeology. The history of the city and the region is presented here with an inquisitive, quirky, and creative attitude alongside the latest trends in international contemporary art.

The Contemporary Art , in Ligne, is primarily devoted to international avant-garde with photography, video art, and crossovers as the prominent highlights. The works exhibited focus heavily on contemporary names and their older artistic inspirations.

The Urban History & Archaeology wing on the upper floor presents a cultural anthropology perspective on the present and past of the city and the region. Here you will also find the permanent collection of archaeological and historical objects, and a special multimedia activity for young people.

Museum Het Domein is located in a 19th-century building, formerly the city school, in the historic Sittard city centre.

Pinkpop Expo

Every year around Whitsun weekend, the town of Landgraaf hosts legendary pop festival Pinkpop, registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running pop festival in history. Now you can experience Pinkpop year-round. In Geleen, the birthplace of Pinkpop, the agency behind the festival has opened a permanent exhibition that takes you all the way back to the earliest days. See iconic photos of the audiences and artists of Pinkpop, including Mick Jagger, Sting, Bono, and many others. Then sit back in the Pinkpop cinema for a little bit of the real Pinkpop experience. Alongside the photos and videos, you will also find historical documents like original budgets, band contracts, permits, and correspondence. If you've ever wondered what it's like getting a major festival like Pinkpop off the ground, these will give you an idea of the ups and downs. The Pinkpop expo is open to fans every Friday from 2 PM to 5 PM. It is a must-see for festivalgoers yesterday and today!

Stadslab

Het Stadslab ('City lab') is the idea factory for creative entrepreneurs in Sittard-Geleen and the region. The Stadslab focuses on the various disciplines within the creative industry: the visual arts, the stage, film, photography and video, music, architecture, design, radio & TV, new media, journalism and literature, cultural heritage, and traditional crafts. People working in this sector can become a part of the Stadslab creative network.
